Clinton Crawford who came from Nova Scotia, Canada and began farming in Kern County in 1893 founded the company known as Thomson International. In 1906, John Thomson originally from Scotland, became involved in the company and also married Crawford's daughter. The current president of the company C. Jeff Thomson is a great grandson of Clinton Crawford.

When the Thomson's started growing garlic in 1973, it was for the dehydration and processing industry. Finding Kern County's growing conditions excellent, Jeff and wife Elaine soon realized that most profitable returns were in the production of top quality fresh marketing which commenced with the incorporation of Thomson International in 1977. These first years shipping involved exports to Mexico, Central America, and shipments within the United States. Rapid expansion in the 1980's included becoming a year round supplier with imports of seasonal production from South America and Mexico during the spring months. On site cold storage technology completely dedicated to garlic storage (borrowed from the "high tech" apple industry), optimized the garlic's condition throughout the fall and winter, allowing Thomson International to keep top condition garlic "in season all year."

In 1994, the acquisition of Fresh Peeled/Consul Pack of Five Point, California brought peeled garlic production to the mix of fresh garlic. In 1995, the entire fresh clove peeling operation was moved to Bakersfield, California to the fresh bulb packing, cold storage and shipping facilities. The peeled garlic segment of Thomson International continues to build upon the reputation for premium fresh bulb packed under the "TLC" (Tender Loving Care) label. With the addition of the "Fresh Peeled" label, Thomson International continues to specialize in delivering the freshest most wholesome and now most convenient source of garlic nutrition and culinary pleasure.
